Michael Ritacco, an 11-year resident of Somers –with two children at Somers Intermediate School– has officially announced his candidacy for the Somers Central School District Board of Education.
With 20 years of experience in education, as a teacher in the classroom, school building administrator, and school district leader, Michael brings a deep understanding of curriculum, budgeting, facilities, and technology that will help shape the future of Somers schools. Michael is currently the Director of Technology in Port Chester Schools. Michael was also a high school math teacher for 10 years, the Supervisor of Math and Science and a High School Assistant Principal.
“I am excited to bring my expertise to the Board of Education and help lead Somers to new academic heights,” said Michael. “As a 20-year career educator, administrator, and parent, I have the ideal background, knowledge and understanding to help Somers Schools navigate the challenges as well as the opportunities before our district. I am committed to ensuring every student receives the best education possible while maintaining fiscal responsibility and transparency with our community.”
With two young children in Somers schools for years to come, Michael has a personal stake in the trajectory of the school district and the well-being of the greater Somers community, and he knows the two are inextricably linked.
“Our schools are the heart of our community, and I want to ensure they thrive,’ said Ritacco. “By combining smart financial planning, academic innovation, and a commitment to safety, we can make Somers one of the premier school districts in the region. This can only benefit the investments made by so many Somers families who were drawn here by the great reputation of our schools.”
