Tradition Turns to Suspicion With Events Hosted by League of Women Voters

Updated: Apr 10

The League of Women Voters has a long history of hosting and moderating debates in U.S. elections, from Presidential clashes all the way down to local school board events. It seems recently though, the League of Women Voters is no longer the bi-partisan organization they claim to be. Let's look at some of their recent social media posts and you can decide for yourself.

League of Women Voters Organize "Mass Mobilization" against President Trump.

Well that one doesn't seem very bi-partisan. Organizing "mass mobilization" against President Trump and his administration? Maybe some of their other posts will push back against Democrats though...

League of Women Voters are Against Voter ID
League of Women Voters are Against Voter ID

This one is interesting. Roughly 80% of Americans support requirements to show voter ID. The League of Women Voters, displaying a picture of former Democrat President Clinton, describe President Trump's executive order as "anti-voter." Seems odd that 80% of voters would be in favor of this order, but "the League," would be against it. Seems like another Anti-Trump post, and decidedly partisan, but let's keep digging. This bi-partisan organization must have some right leaning stances somewhere on their social media...

League of Women Voters Sue Trump Over Voter ID
League of Women Voters Sue Trump Over Voter ID

Nope...just more Anti-Trump rhetoric. This time they are publicizing a lawsuit they have filed against the current Administration. Maybe I'm naive to what bi-partisan actually means. Let's do a quick Google search:

Nah, it's exactly what I thought it was. I wonder...how does an organization call itself bi-partisan when literally every piece of media they put out is so one sided. The answer is pretty simple, they're lying. It's not just Somers First that has noticed this either. Republicans across America are pulling out of League of Women Voter events citing clear partisanship. Here's a couple of examples:

Soooo, the million dollar question is: How does this affect the Town of Somers? Well, the Somers PTA has hired the League of Women Voters to moderate their Board of Education debates for years. Rumor has it they are planning to again this year. Why? I guess you would have to ask the PTA why they are hiring a clearly partisan org to moderate.

We'll have to monitor closely and see what the outcome is. Will the PTA hire them? Will conservative candidates choose not to attend, following in the footsteps of many other Republican candidates? We'll know soon enough and be sure to get you all the relevant information as it transpires! Stay tuned Somers!
