Jozef Vala Announces Candidacy for Somers Board of Ed

My name is Jozef Vala, and for the past ten years, I have proudly called Somers my home. As a first-generation American, I was raised with the values of hard work, family, and community—values that guide me every day. I am a father to two daughters: one who graduated from Somers High School in 2020 and another who will enter sixth grade next year. Having lived and raised my family here, I’ve witnessed the changes in our schools and community over the past decade. I believe now is the time to restore common sense and fiscal responsibility to the Somers Board of Education.

Proven Leadership and Experience
With over 30 years in sales, mentorship, management, and leadership, I bring a wealth of professional experience to this role. Throughout my career, I’ve been a top performer, mentoring colleagues and leading teams to success while fostering collaboration and growth. These skills translate directly to the Board of Education, where I will advocate effectively for our students, families, and educators. I know how to make informed, practical decisions that prioritize our community’s needs while managing resources responsibly.

Our students’ well-being—both physical and mental—is my top priority. Safeguarding them requires more than just policies; it demands active parental involvement and strong partnerships within our community. Parents deserve to have their voices heard and their concerns addressed. As a trustee, I will:

- Promote Parental Oversight: Strengthen collaboration between families and schools, ensuring parents are informed and involved in decisions affecting their children’s education.


- Prioritize Fiscal Responsibility: Ensure taxpayer dollars are spent wisely, creating an educational environment that balances student needs with community resources.

- Protect Our Students: Work tirelessly to safeguard the physical and mental health of every child in our district.
